Happy Friday,

In my first link this week, listen to an energetic podcast with Alexandra Ellis of The Body Nerd Show where we address perfectionism and health (and some more on sleep).

And in the link I illustrate why our anxiety is actually right to warn us of threats. So how will we respond to this valuable information?

Enjoy the weekend,

Dr. Eddie

The Body Nerd Show

From Alex of The Body Nerd Show:

“How does perfectionism get in the way of your health?

On today's episode, I'm joined by clinical and sport psychologist Dr. Eddie O'Connor who specializes in removing barriers to peak performance.

One area that non-athletes can focus on is optimizing sleep.

And while this isn't our typical anatomy-based conversation, your body, mind, AND spirit can't be separated without consequence.

Trust me, I was sweating bullets throughout most of this because Dr. Eddie saw right through my overachiever nonsense!

"Anxiety, You're Right!"

What would happen if you agreed with your anxiety?

Our usual response is to try and relax and forget about it. Focus on the positive.

How is that working for you?

I’m guessing not well.

Realistically, are you supposed to not be nervous going to the Olympics, before that big test, or competing with others for the final spot on the team?

Of course not. The threat is real.

Your mind is not going to let you ignore the realistic threat to your heart and ego that the failure, mistakes and disappointment may cause.

So why fight it? What would happen if you agreed? What if you said to your anxiety, “You’re right! This is a challenge and this is a threat …

… so what can we do about it so it doesn’t happen?”
