Learn why your plans for tomorrow are a problem today

Hello
Be careful who you allow in your circle. They will bring you up or down. There is no neutral. I discuss this on the Sports Project Radio Show and you can listen below.
Then watch my #MTin60sec video and learn why planning for tomorrow could hurt your motivation today and contribute to inconsistency!
Best,
Dr Eddie
Does your squad help or hurt you?
This was a fun interview on The Sports Project Radio Show. Steve and I talk about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who bring you up and hold you accountable to standards that help you meet your goals. This is one of the benefits I find of the CrossFit culture overall (that and the rule that you always talk about CrossFit, lol), but in particular at 8th Day Gym.
We talk about the team that made the CrossFit Games (and to clarify I am not their sport psychologist, their toughness comes from their belief that "hard work pays off").
Ask yourself - do the people you surround yourself with make you better? Or do they bring you down? They WILL have an impact on your process and results. Be deliberate about who is in your circle.
Consider the support of Success Stories Membership - a community of high achievers, just like you, working together to overcome obstacles to excellence (e.g., performance anxiety, lack of motivation) so they can be their best when it matters most.
And if you enjoyed my previous post about why I hate the cliché, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable” then you will enjoy my elaboration and rant about it live on air.
This interview was a treat. Listen here and forward to an athlete who wants to improve his/her game.
(The picture is from Murph ... can you find me? Red shirt in the middle. ... This group helped me beat my personal record for this workout by 20 minutes!).
Tomorrow Never Comes
Obstacle:
You want something … badly. But despite your desire you just can't get yourself started or consistently stay with the program to get results. Focusing on what you want can sometimes undermine your motivation to go after it. The imagery of success provides the chemical “hit” of achieving your goals, making you feel good as if you’ve already accomplished it. This hurts your motivation to actually do something about it.
Or, you become so aware of the gap between where you and and where you want to be, you get discouraged about your current situation and how far you have to go “to be happy.”
How to Overcome:
First, translate your emotional wants into behavioral actions. What can you DO that will move you in the direction of your goals?
Second, tomorrow never comes. Tomorrow turns into today. It is always today. So if you are putting off behaviors you will start to do in the future, why not just start doing them now? (Answer: because it is uncomfortable, and we avoid what’s uncomfortable). Be willing to feel that discomfort in service of moving toward your goals today.
