How to talk to yourself for success

Hi ,


You've been stuck at times trying to think positive and it not working.


It is the struggle to control thoughts that can be a distraction. Sometimes it is best to not worry about being positive and just focus on action (More about that here).


I don't mean to suggest that positive thinking has no value, however. When you can adopt a more positive perspective, it can often improve performance.


While it isn't necessary, it certainly makes things easier!


And there is a best way to do it:

There are four flavors of positive self-talk that help:

  1. The encouraging coach ... pushing yourself to embrace challenges
  2. The resilient warrior ... that learns from mistakes and picks yourself up after you fall
  3. The gratitude guru ... whose performance and mental health benefits from appreciation of what is going well, and
  4. The positive pivot ... necessary when things go wrong to accept what is and focus on what can be done to improve.
