How to talk to yourself for success
Mar 14, 2024 9:14 pm
Hi ,
You've been stuck at times trying to think positive and it not working.
It is the struggle to control thoughts that can be a distraction. Sometimes it is best to not worry about being positive and just focus on action (More about that here).
I don't mean to suggest that positive thinking has no value, however. When you can adopt a more positive perspective, it can often improve performance.
While it isn't necessary, it certainly makes things easier!
And there is a best way to do it:
There are four flavors of positive self-talk that help:
- The encouraging coach ... pushing yourself to embrace challenges
- The resilient warrior ... that learns from mistakes and picks yourself up after you fall
- The gratitude guru ... whose performance and mental health benefits from appreciation of what is going well, and
- The positive pivot ... necessary when things go wrong to accept what is and focus on what can be done to improve.
I elaborate on each in this blog post.
