Hello
Happy Thanksgiving!
Did you know that gratitude is not a feeling? It is a behavioral practice and it enhances performance.
Below I have three one-minute videos that will help you develop gratitude as a performance enhancing skill.
And let me take this opportunity to thank you for being a part of our community of excellence. I appreciate your trust and connection. I look forward to serving you in the months and years ahead.
Blessings to you and your family ... Now on to the videos!
How to Overcome Frustration with Gratitude
OBSTACLE: Frustration and lack of motivation when we don’t get the results we are working for.
HOW TO OVERCOME:
Gratitude. Not forgetting the negative or focusing on the positive. But finding things you can be truly grateful for IN the adversity you are struggling with, and appreciating these real, valuable things along side the difficulty. Our current performance isn’t black or white, all good or all bad. Gratitude can be found in the gray and it will lift your spirits and give you the motivation to persevere.
Gratitude as Discipline
At Thanksgiving we talk a lot about gratitude. You already know it improves positivity and performance, but I’d like to share a benefit that doesn’t get talked about enough. Gratitude as a discipline, when you don’t feel it. When you intentionally practice gratitude without the feeling you reinforce how you can act independent of what you think or feel. You become less reactive to thoughts and feelings and more intentional with your behaviors based on your values. The practice of discipline in one area of life enhances discipline in others.
Gratitude Improves Performance
Being thankful has so many benefits from improving physical health, to increasing optimism and developing self-control and perseverance through adversity. But what may be most interesting and helpful is how gratitude gets us out of our own head, away from the critical self-talk, and into the positive details of our environment. Try saying thank you to someone for a specific thing you appreciate daily, keep a gratitude journal for 30 days (I did this with powerful results), or send a thank you note and watch the change in your heart. Let me know which strategy you will try (and reply to this e-mail with the results you got!)
