What is mindfulness of the mind?
Oct 21, 2022 12:56 pm
Happy Friday,
Concluding my advice on how to overcome overthinking, I introduce you to "mindfulness of the mind" and invite you to develop this skill with us inside Success Stories Membership.
I just got back from Towson, Maryland outside of Baltimore where I was invited to speak the the coaches and athletes at Calvert Hall College High School on how to improve their focus and performance in adversity. See the details below and if I can share this message with your organization, reply to this e-mail and let's put it on the calendar.
Best wishes,
Dr. Eddie

Mindfulness of the Mind
If you've practiced mindfulness, you've probably observed your breath. But have you tried observing your thoughts?
This can be more difficult as thoughts have a way of hooking us into the content of what we are thinking, believing one rapid catastrophic thought after another. This increases our anxiety and hurts our performance.
Inside Success Stories Membership I teach "Mindfulness of the Mind." We start with understanding the purpose and value of worry. This creates safety in the experience and an opportunity to detach from it.
We learn to question what we are thinking and see if the thought is working for us (i.e., is it helping us get where we want to go?). If so, we can believe it and act on it. But if it isn't we can detach, give up the struggle to control our thinking, and refocus that mental energy on behaving in a way that moves us toward our goals.
Inside the membership I give you several practical exercises to get out of your head and into the game.

Speaking to Coaches & Athletes
Many thanks to Calvert Hall for the opportunity to present to your coaches and athletes this week.
In “How to Succeed. No. Matter. What.” I taught a framework to overcome adversity like performance anxiety, anger and frustration after mistakes, and the pressure to win and achieve.
Specifically we discussed why negative emotions aren’t bad and experienced three exercises to help choose the best reactions to these emotions.
We reviewed the benefits of worry and how to do what you need to do when you don’t feel like it.
Then concluded with two specific focus strategies that they could start using immediately!
I appreciated the positive feedback on how this was a different and more practical approach than what they've heard before and "exactly what we needed!"
Reply to this e-mail if you’d like to bring this workshop to your team(s).
