If you've read any of my nature wizard series Magic of Nasci, you'll know I'm fascinated with how myth and nature combine. I wrote the series because most contemporary fantasy written nowadays focuses on people in cities. If an author wants to write about the wilderness, they write epic fantasy on other worlds.
But I love the interplay of our own natural world and magic. Our ancestors felt it deep in the woods surrounded by wild flora and fauna. It humbled and inspired them. Many great stories of human history emerge from untapped wildernesses.
That's why I was thrilled to find this free short film on YouTube called Fox Fires. It beautifully illustrates the Finnish myth of how the aurora borealis was formed. Full of mythical animals and a fox who doesn't fit in with his peers, it could easily fit into the world of Nasci. (And it was created by a grad student. Holy talent!)

Soul Bound is heavily steeped in Norse mythology in this novel by bestselling international author A.J. Flowers. Thane has served his goddess for thousands of lifetimes, but even he knows that time is running out. Thane learns the horrible truth that his goddess hasn't been recycling souls but destroying them. Permanently melded with his human host, Thane meets his soulmate, a woman who captures his heart like his goddess never did. He'll do anything to protect her, and the gods know it.
The Black Heron is another book that features an unlikely female hero that wields lightning. As a vigilante working alone just outside the law, Echo gets trapped with helping the police. Can she trust the detective that pushes all of her buttons?
Until next time, happy adventuring!
