Hi friend!
Here's something for you to...
1) watch.
Domino Chain Reaction
Really cool 2-minute video on simple physics...plus a great metaphor.
Don't worry about going from A to Z. Just focus on A to B first, and so on...
Radical Right vs Radical Left
Ryan Long has become one of my favorite YouTubers. Similar to Schulz Saves America, these sketches criticize the ridiculousness of both sides of the political spectrum.
Irrationality and cultish behavior don't belong to a single ideology.
2) read.
On caring
A beautifully refreshing piece on why it's so difficult to truly care about a massive amount of people. I know that sounds strange.
I've battled with this for years: "Why do I find it so hard to deeply care about the suffering of millions around the planet? I donate to charities I care about. Is that enough?"
Reading this helped relieve that guilt.
3) use.
DISC Personality Test
This 2-minute test produces shockingly accurate results.
I've sent this to a bunch of friends and it's been spot on every time.
My results:
Motivator (I)
Dillan tends to be an open-minded, excitable idealist with a passion for finding new ways to solve problems. He is likely to enjoy meeting new people, brainstorming new ideas, and encouraging others.
4) listen to.
An Insurrection of Lies
Episode 230 of Making Sense with Sam Harris.
I know, I know. Two Sam Harris episodes back to back...but this one is important.
Sam clearly and concisely articulates the damaging misinformation being spread about the attack on the Capital last week.
Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Why I Changed My Mind on Bitcoin
By NO means am I anything close to a financial expert...but it's hard to ignore the performance of Bitcoin's value.
My key takeaways:
• Bitcoin is fucking fascinating.
• After investing some money into Bitcoin, I've immediately seen how exciting and terrifying such volatility can be.
• Don't invest any money into Bitcoin that you wouldn't be willing to lose—Despite its stunning success, it's still a gamble.
Extras.
Some of my blogs.
10 Rules for Better Disagreements
My Ten Commandments for arguing with people in a much more productive way.
5 Steps to solving any problem
For real.
What buying a lamp says about you.
Two kinds of people.
Why you always give up.
A conclusion I've gathered after three years of getting my shit together and helping others do the same.
Quotes.
“When two people believe opposite things, chances are that one of them is wrong. It pays to find out if that someone is you.”
-Ray Dalio
“The most direct way to become popular is to serve the audience that made the last thing popular. By that definition, popular almost always means ‘not better.’ It simply means that you found a large group and gave them what they wanted.”
-Seth Godin
“I love personality tests. It’s like astrology but not completely fake.”
-Andrew Phillips
