8 Things You Really Need to Know About the DET

1. Learn all 13 question types

The DET has 13 different question types, and the test changes regularly.

If you do not know the format, the test will feel much harder than it needs to.

2. Focus on Speaking and Writing first

If you need to improve your score quickly, start here.

This is the fastest way to move your score up β€” especially if your goal is 100, 110, or 120+.

3. The DET is so fast

The whole test takes about 1 hour, but the time limits are very short.

That means preparation really matters.

Bonus: Don’t pay full price for the test

You can get 10% off the DET through my official partner link.

4. Write About the Photo appears 3 times

And it comes with almost no thinking time.

If you are not prepared for this question, it can feel very stressful on test day.

5. The test is adaptive

The questions adjust to your level as you go.

That is why every test is different.

6. You can take it at home

This is one of the biggest advantages of the DET.

You can take it in a quiet, well-lit room at a time that works for you.

7. No headphones, and no copy-paste

These are two very important rules.

You cannot wear headphones or earphones, and you cannot copy and paste anything during the test.

8. Typing, spelling, and punctuation all matter

Because the test is computer-based, you need to type comfortably in English.

And yes β€” small mistakes in spelling and punctuation can hurt your score.

Bonus 2: You can send your DET results to as many universities as you want for free.
