What do I have in common with a goldfish?
Nov 04, 2024 11:31 am
G'day, ,
Well, here we are at the back end of 2024.
I know I keep saying it, but this year seems to have disappeared right before my eyes. I may be showing my age, but I remember way back in 1999 when we were all worried about the Y2K phenomenon and that only seems like it happened a few months ago. Sheesh!
Have I ever told you I have the memory of a goldfish?
It's grown progressively worse since I had covid and hit menopause. Anyway, I was rereading Everlasting Promises so I could fill in the space I left blank and discovered entire sections of the story that I completely forgot I wrote.
There's nothing like feeling like you're reading your own book for the FIRST time. 🙄
Welcome to my author life ... 🤣🤣🤣
On a more serious note, I worry about my future. My mum has late stage dementia and I worry I'll follow in her footsteps. Where she at least used to recognise me for moments, she's lost me to her memories altogether now and while I understand it's the disease and I don't take it personally, it's definitely hard to see her like she is now.
I think it was tougher when she was at the stage when she realised she was losing her memory than it is now. She's oblivious to what she's lost. It's everyone around her that feels it more.
On a brighter note, I took her to her weekly hair appointment last week. She's been a regular at the salon for over 30 years and even though she doesn't remember the girls, she does remember the 'feeling' of belonging she experiences when she's there and her smile was bright when she walked in. They all treat her like royalty, and I couldn't be happier.
Look at MY reading month! I was a little shocked that I've read so many books. FOURTEEN books this month. I haven't had a month like that for ages.
IF you're looking for dark romance, I always, always recommend Pepper Winters. Her writing is almost poetic. BUT the themes are ALWAYS dark and the list of triggers in this series is something else, so proceed with caution.
If you're wanting something completely different and a little emotional, I highly recommend Where One Goes by BN Toler. An author friend recommended this book to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
King of Greed is the marriage in trouble trope and I enjoyed it immensely. HE worked hard to win her back, which I always love.
I was LUCKY enough to receive an ARC of the next book in the Kings of Hell series by Alexis Maree! Once again, I was hooked from the first sentence. I LOVE this series; I love her writing; I love the world building; I just LOVE everything about this series. Her men are *chef's kiss*!
If you're looking for something that's a little light-hearted, then Emily James is fantastic. I started with her several years ago with her Ten series and this one was just as enjoyable.
And, finally ... I've been binge reading Samantha Christy at the recommendation of one of my readers turned friends and I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've read so far.
How about you? How was your month?
