Let's talk about the deliciousness of brownies

G'day, ,

I hope you've had an amazing couple of weeks since we last caught up!

In my last email, I asked who your favourite Chris is and you responded with your preferences. In the end, it was a close call, but Chris Hemsworth won the vote! And while he's slightly in front as my favourite (because Aussies need to stick together and all that), I love all three.

What can I say, I don't like to leave anyone out! 😂

This week's question: Which part of the brownie do you like best?

The crunchy outer edge or the soft, gooey centre?

I've actually worked out a way to have both. When I make brownies, I make them in a mini cupcake baking tray. That way I get that yummy gooey goodness in the middle and the delicious crunch on the outside! I'd love to know which is your favourite or if you'd consider trying my method, so please email me here: debrastjamesbooks@gmail.com and let me know.

To celebrate surpassing 70K words of my first draft of Shane's story, I thought it was a good time to reduce the price of Second Chance Summer to 99c for a limited time (July 17 – 22).

We first met Shane in Loving Summer, but we got to see a little more of him in Second Chance Summer because he's Toby's high school best friend-turned-bodyguard.

Here's a little insight as to how Shane came to be Toby's bodyguard ...

Toby wipes his mouth with his napkin. “Did you enjoy the reunion?”

“Yeah, it was great to catch up with old friends. Most people looked pretty much the same, just older. Though, I don’t think I would have recognized Shane if I fell over him in the street. He looks so different from what he did in high school.”

Toby nods in agreement. “Time serving overseas in the Special Forces will change a guy.”

“Oh, I didn’t know. Where did he serve?”

“He spent some time in Syria. Saw some horrendous shit over there. Since he’s been home, he hasn’t been the same. He doesn’t talk about it. He, uh, actually works for me as my bodyguard.” He looks sheepish sharing that information with me, as though he’s embarrassed he’s so famous he needs a bodyguard.

“It must be hard to go through war over there, then have to come home and function as if you haven’t seen and done terrible things. I didn’t know he worked as your bodyguard.”

“Yeah, I don’t need one, but I wanted to keep an eye on him, so I created the position. He doesn’t know that, though, so please keep that information to yourself.” What a kind, generous thing to do for a friend. It makes Toby that much more attractive in my eyes—a man who takes responsibility with his actions rather than his words.

“Sure. No problem.” Does that mean he thinks I’ll be seeing Shane again? The server comes to clear our dishes, topping up each of our glasses with wine at the same time.

I wanted to remind you that Falling for the Enemy will be removed from sale at the end of July. The anthology won't ever be available again. So if you want your copy, you'd better grab it now.

I'll be sad to see this project come to an end, but it's been such a privilege to be part of it. To know that we've helped in some small way is such a great feeling and one I'm very proud of.

Remember 100% of the proceeds for the anthology are helping The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

I'm excited to share that I was accepted to participate in another fundraising anthology which will be coming next June!

This time 100% of proceeds from this set will benefit Our Rescue to support victims of human trafficking.

THE TROUBLE WITH BAD BOYS...

I hope you're ready for Lincoln's story. Lincoln is the tattoo artist that did Max's tattoos and also asked after Emma. He carries a heavy burden.

Here's a refresher from Moonlit Kisses ...

The guys around the table agree, nodding their heads like old men. “You guys sound like Em. She stopped in on Saturday and gave me the same lecture.”

Lincoln sits up straighter at the mention of Em’s name. “Yeah? How’s Emma?”

“Married!” I snap. Fucking asshole knows this already.

“Still?”

“Yeah, fucking still. Probably will be for the rest of her life. Can’t see Theo ever walking away from her and the boys.” I smirk at the forlorn expression on Lincoln’s face. He had his chance to make a move while she was single, but never grew the balls to do anything about it. His loss.
