Summer’s almost here, and to those who celebrate, I wish you a happy Summer Solstice. The Wiccan characters in my urban fantasy certainly celebrate. I’ve been on a bit of a writing marathon since May’s newsletter, and have nearly completed the first draft of the second novel in this trilogy. When it’s finished, I’ll read the whole book through to see if the story actually works. That’s step one in the editing process, but there’s so much more to do.

I have a couple of great deals for you. First up is a $.99 deal on my 2nd Casey Holland mystery series, Deadly Accusations. In this book, Casey is still dealing with the aftermath of the shocks that took place in The Opposite of Dark. This joint promo features over 35 authors of suspense, mystery, and police procedurals, which you can find HERE. Here’s a short blurb:

imageTransit security cop, Casey Holland, is investigating acts of violence on MPT buses. Someone’s smashing windows on the M6 and racial hatred between pre-teens on the M10 is about to erupt into all-out war. The murder of Casey’s coworker escalates her problems as secrets, suspicions, and accusations create workplace upheavals. Is the killer a colleague, or is someone else about to destroy Casey’s life?-- “A well-crafted book with lots of teasers”.- Nightreader

Also, if you’re looking to try authors whose books you might not have read before, the Summer Sleuthing promotion is offering a selection of thrillers and cozies from over 50 authors, which you can find HERE.

On the reading front, having read book #15 from John Sandford’s Luca Davenport police procedurals, I went back to the beginning and just finished his second book, Shadow Prey, in this long and popular series. The book was written in 1990 and deals with a lot of bad blood between the Indigenous people of Minnesota (referred to as Indians in his book) and local authorities. Here in Canada, although racism certainly still exists, the term Indian is considered derogatory, so it made me cringe. Davenport is also more cruel and narcissistic than my first encounter with this character in book #15. It’ll be interesting to see how he changes throughout the series, if I stick with it. I’m on the fence about that, so we'll see. If you've read any of the novels, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Until next time,
