August Crime Fiction Freebies, Discounts, and What I've Been Up To

Hi everyone. Happy August, and a big welcome to new subscribers! It’s been about 5 weeks since my last newsletter, so thank you to those who’ve stuck with me. I was on vacation with my family in Parksville, BC, for a week in July. Here’s a photo of the beach I walked along in the mornings and evenings while on vacation. Few things are more soothing for the soul than to stroll by the water and let one’s thoughts flow.

I also underwent my first cataract surgery a few days ago. A new lens was placed in my left eye, and while recovery is going well, it’s also made my vision currently lopsided. I can now read and watch TV without glasses, but vision in my right eye is blurry, so the glasses stay on for now. The second surgery is August 12 and I can’t wait.

This month, I’m offering the 5th installment, KNOCK KNOCK, in my Casey Holland transit mystery series at a $.99 discount. This is part of the Mysteries That Challenge and Reward BookFunnel promo that’s offering suspense, mystery and police procedural novels, which you can find HERE.

The idea for Knock Knock came from a real event in Vancouver several years ago. Seniors who lived alone were being targeted with home invasions. This is one of those crimes that really troubles me, even though I don’t live alone. News stories still pop up about them everywhere. They say write about what matters to you, and this is it. Here’s a short blurb of the novel:

When a home invasion kills senior Elsie Englehart, security officer Casey Holland is devastated. She’s supposed to be watching over elderly bus riders in an area frequently targeted by thugs. Determined to keep others safe, Casey escorts a senior to his home, only to come under attack by an armed intruder. Hospitalized and angry, Casey struggles to regain control of her life, despite interference from family and colleagues, and attempts to prepare for her upcoming wedding. Another home invasion compels Casey to take action, but at what cost to her health and her relationships?

On the freebie side of things, I and over 70 other authors, am taking part in BF’s August Mystery Freebies. This one allows you to download samples and excerpts of various mystery and suspense titles. Some will also include female sleuths, and you can find the link HERE.

And closing on a colourful note, here is of the flowers in our front garden. They’re a favourite of hummingbirds 😊

I’ll catch up with you after the 2nd surgery. Until then, take care everyone.
