December Freebies and a Health Update
Dec 03, 2025 6:58 pm
Hi everyone and, once again, welcome to new subscribers. I’ve just finished my tenth chemo treatment and the tumor has disappeared! Having said that, this journey isn’t over. The doctor noted that there could be other cancerous cells in the lymph nodes, so treatment continues. If you’re interested in reading more about my cancer journey, details are in my blog. The link is in my signature line below.
This month’s freebie BookFunnel newsletter promo is Free Tickets to Mystery and Adventure, and it’s a big one! Nearly 100 authors are offering free books, samples, and excerpts in different genres such as mystery, adventure, science fiction, and fantasy. You can find all the many options HERE.
On the discount front, this month I’m offering the third in my Casey Holland transit mysteries, Beneath the Bleak New Moon, for $.99.
What happens when a street race on a busy Vancouver thoroughfare kills a pedestrian? And what happens when it occurs again, deliberately? Public outrage, a missing investigative reporter, and upheaval in Casey Holland’s personal life create a wild ride to the heart-stopping end. “A good read with urban grit and a spicy climax.” -- The Hamilton Spectator

WHAT I’VE BEEN READING
Hazard in Hawaii by Heather Silvio
I enjoyed this reasonably light, supernatural mystery set on the big island of Hawaii. Sarah Danger is working as a private investigator’s assistant while she finishes her PhD dissertation on the paranormal in mythology. She and her boss are investigating mysterious deaths caused by spiking fevers that the doctors don’t know how to treat. Sarah needs to figure out if the cause is related to supernatural events that might be coming from an active volcano.
You Can Conquer Cancer: A New Way of Living by Ian Gawler
This book is written by a veterinarian who had the same type of cancer as our Canadian hero, Terry Fox. Like Terry, Dr. Gawler had his leg amputated in his twenties, suffered a few setbacks, but fifty years later is still going strong. He’s a big advocate of meditation, nutrition and integrative medicine, which involves many forms of treatment. If you know of someone who’s going through cancer, they might find this book helpful.
And on the fantasy front is The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffen.
This is a unique, original take on what it means to be a witch and practice magic. The main character Clara has a rare gift that’s accidentally killed the people she’s closest to. There’s a strong, environmental component that revolves around the four seasons and our rapidly deteriorating planet, which also gives this interesting book a relevant spin.
That’s it for now. I’ll try to chat with you again before the end of this year. I have two more treatments this month and then start a new regime of chemo drugs on Dec. 23. If it knocks me flat on my butt, I figure I can still get some reading done over the holidays.
Until next time,
