Hi everyone, just a quick reminder that the newsletter signup promo, Owl on the
Prowl (featuring four different genres) ends on June 15th. You can find the link HERE.
Also, the suspense/thriller/mystery discount promo for Casey Holland mystery #5 Knock Knock, ends on June 19th, so there’s still time to take advantage of that HERE.
Next month, I’ll be featuring the 6th book in my Casey Holland mystery series, The Blade Man.
Many of my story ideas were inspired by actual events. The Blade Man explores some of the challenges bus drivers face every day, particularly with respect to passengers dealing with anger and/or mental health issues. When I worked in campus security, I met people who were going through more than they could cope with.
Because I was a female guard, and about 25 years older than my coworkers, my supervisor asked me to escort a young woman to her dorm, watch her pack her things, then make sure she got in her vehicle and left the campus. For confidentiality's sake, I won’t go into details about why she was expelled, but departure day was intense.
While she had reportedly calmed down and accepted that she’d be leaving, I was still alert to any abrupt change in behavior. Perhaps because she didn’t see me as a threat, she chatted as she packed her things, expressing remorse for her actions. One of the best traits I had as a guard was to listen. Perhaps it helped because she left the campus without incident. Stuff happens. If we’re really lucky, we all learn from our experiences.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll bring you more information on The Blade Man, and another campus story that’s both sad and amusing, depending on your viewpoint.
Until next time,
Debra
