October Thriller Freebies and a Personal Update
Oct 20, 2025 2:34 pm
It’s been a month since my last post and I’ve had quite an adventure with weekly rounds of cancer treatment. All goes well so far. If you’re curious to know more about my journey, you can find more details in my blog. The link is in my signature line.
Given that I still have the energy to keep writing, reading, and promoting, I joined a BookFunnel newsletter signup promotion. October Thrillers offers free, full ebooks of mystery, suspense, thrillers, which you can find HERE.
I’m also offering a $.99 sale for the next couple of weeks on my latest Casey Holland mystery, A Gold Satin Murder. This time, the book focuses on a more humorous side to Casey’s crime-solving adventures as she finds herself mixed up with a male stripper. There’s no sexual content in the story, just hints…Here’s the blurb:
Security cop Casey Holland does not want to help prove the innocence of a murder suspect and male stripper named Eduardo…until she learns that his relationship with her good friend, Lily, could destroy Lily’s life. So, while Eduardo’s busy peeling off his clothes, Casey’s peeling back secrets that reveal way more than she bargained for.

WHAT I’VE BEEN READING
I haven’t read as much as I thought I would this month, however, I did read a post-apocalyptic classic called The Day of the Triffids. I saw two movie versions years ago, and the story has always fascinated me. When I was sitting on my patio this summer and watching the vines from our trellis grow to the point where they nearly reached our table with remarkable speed, I thought of that story again. The book is suspenseful, scary and, although published in 1951, still holds up.
My mystery reading has eclectic tastes. I read everything from cozies to gritty police procedurals, although generally I prefer something in between. I also read self-published books and traditional books, new and old. Right now I’m reading The End Game by Charlotte Morganti. It’s exactly the type of story I like. I’m about halfway through, and enjoy the family and friendship angles that are an integral part of the story. It’s great crime-solving with strong characters.
WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING
‘Murder in a Small Town’ is an hour-long crime series set here on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast and based on the terrific police procedural mysteries of L.R. Wright. It’s great storytelling mixed with a little bit of romance between librarian Cassandra and Detective Karl Alberg.
I’m also watching a quirk mystery series called ‘The Lowdown’ starring Ethan Hawke, a bookstore owner who’s also a freelance journalist investigating the death of the Washberg’s family patriarch. Since the guy isn’t exactly an ace investigator, he winds up in a ton of trouble for his efforts. Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, there’s plenty of atmosphere and enough eccentric characters to keep an otherwise ordinary plot interesting. Ethan Hawke is worth watching alone.
I’m also watching ‘Matlock’ and ‘Elsbeth’, which I’m sure many of you are already familiar with. There’s a couple of other series I want to watch, but since I’m still writing every day, I’m not spending a lot of time in front of the TV. Meanwhile, I’m always open to suggestions for great books, movies, and TV shows.
Until next time,
