September Crime Fiction Deals and What I've Been Up To

Hello, and welcome to new subscribers. I don’t know about you, but summer certainly feels over. Vancouver’s annual Pacific National Exhibition ended yesterday and my last craft fair of the summer at Township7 winery was last week. I love this craft fair. The organizers always give us a free glass of wine and it’s an important fundraiser for the Osteoporosis Society.

Those who’ve been following me a while know that I’ve been doing a $.99 sale on each of my books every month. This month, I’m featuring book #6, The Blade Man, a story that hits close to home. I interviewed a bus driver who’d been assaulted three times on different routes and has since left the job. Driver assaults and unaddressed mental health issues are a focal part of the story. Here’s the blurb:

Who is the Blade Man and why has he been attacking Mainland Public Transport bus drivers? And who is trying to burn MPT down? The company’s president orders security officer Casey Holland to launch an internal investigation or face termination. Convinced she’s being set up to fail and with her wedding only weeks away, Casey desperately needs answers. Forced to take deeper risks, how far can she go before someone dies?

You can find the link to this and other discounted crime novels through this BookFunnel Mayhem & Motives promo HERE. It’s a large one with plenty of books to choose from.

Aside from craft fairs, our other end-of-summer activity is harvesting our vegetable garden. Here’s a small sampling. This year, the zucchinis and cucumbers are huge and plentiful. The squashes are pretty good, but we had critters eating some of them, so we lost a few. There were also plenty of snow peas earlier this summer, so I’m quite pleased.

RECOMMENDED READING

Since my last newsletter, I’ve read a book on writing, a poetry collection and two fantasy novels. Both of them also have a mystery component. One is I Bring the Fire Part 1: Wolves by C. Gockel. This is a humorous story about 24-year-old Amy who is saved from an attack by Loki. To his chagrin, Loki’s been catapulted to earth from another realm. Anxious to find out what happened to his sons, Loki takes Amy and her grandmother on a quest into a world fraught with danger.

Grave Peril is the third in Jim Butcher’s immensely popular Harry Dresden series. This series is part urban fantasy, horror, humour, and crime fiction. In this installment, ghosts are running amok in Chicago and hurting people. Convinced that they are being controlled by someone, or something, Harry needs to find out before people he cares about are killed.

I’ve got more great reading planned for this month, along with other activities, which I’ll tell you about in a couple of weeks.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.” ~Germany Kent
