Insights - Perfect Is The Enemy Of Good

Voltaire said, "perfect is the enemy of good," and I couldn't agree more.

Wikipedia has an entire page dedicated to this famous aphorism. The first paragraph talks about the Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule. That principle and, therefore, this aphorism has been my conscious approach to SEO for years.

Make sure things are good enough - get those big movers in place, and then go back and improve it later.

Those little things that might not matter as much can still be useful. But we tend to overlook those things because we can't test them perfectly.

Quite ironic.

That's why I've been doing little tests on my websites that are "good enough" to give me an idea about what those little improvements should be. These tests give a good enough idea to tell us whether they're worth doing in the post-optimization phase or whether we should perhaps implement them in our processes from the beginning.

So I've been doing that for a while now, and these insights have benefited my sites.

You can benefit from them, too, because I've started sharing some of them on my blog.

- Insights: Featured Image Dimensions

- Insights: Table of Contents

These are not perfect tests, but they're good enough. I'd rather have a better idea than no idea, and I think you would too.

I hope you find them insightful, and I'd love to hear what else you'd like to see on the blog in the future.

Thanks,

Daniel
