Last fall I fell in love with the Great British Bake Off on Netflix. Have you seen it? If not, it features a group of amateur bakers who compete against each other in a series of rounds. While I watched these contestants mix and knead and roll and pipe frosting, the plot for a romance began to gel. A food festival on the North Shore complete with a bake-off would be the perfect setting for pastry chef Mila Warner and Cam Beckett, an interim editor assigned to interview her, to fall in love. That's how inspiration for LOVE, LIES and LEMON PIE struck, with me curled up on the couch under a fleece throw, watching a baking show.
I've had so much fun getting to know Mila and Cam as they tell me their story. And I'm especially thrilled that Mila has been generous enough to share some of her favorite recipes with me to share with YOU! One of my favorites so far⏤cranberry & sweet potato scones with molasses orange butter⏤is delicious, a perfect recipe to try for the fall. I've added an orange glaze to it instead of using the butter, but this is a similar recipe I found in Southern Living if you'd like to experiment as well. Mila made these scones for one of the rounds in the contest. You'll have to read the story to know the outcome; I can't spoil it before it's even released!
