We got our first real blast of winter yesterday. I spotted flakes while warming up chicken stew for lunch. This was well before I braved the cold, bundled up in a down parka, to take the dog for his morning lake walk (he wore his parka for the first time too--didn't seem to mind at all). And it just got colder throughout the day.
Halloween is a big thing in our small town. The VFW hosts a hotdog roast and costume contest in the city park, but it was cancelled because of the weather. And since we headed over to our daughter's house to see the grand girls in their costumes, our porch light was off for trick-or-treaters. Luckily, there were plenty of festivities over the weekend: two parties at two different libraries, a trunk-or-treat event at a church, and a Halloween party at the zoo in Bloomington. Where were all of these fun events when our kids were little?
That Woman on Thistledown Lane has only been out for a week and I'm already thinking about when I'll do the cover reveal for Book #2. It's tentatively scheduled to release in late February, followed by Book #3 at the end of June. I'm still waiting for some items to arrive here so as soon as I get them, I'll be doing a special giveaway to celebrate the new series. Stay tuned!
Did you know I based the setting for the Port Chance series off the real-life town of LeClaire, Iowa? It's right across the Mississippi River near my husband's hometown on the Illinois side. That area has always been like a second home to me. His family still lives there. Our two sons attended college there. And now that our oldest son lives a short distance away from LeClaire, I'll be visiting regularly to explore the town for more inspiration as I write the rest of the series.
