I dove into an audio book for the first time EVER this week.
I'm so old school when it comes to reading. I really like feeling a book in my hands, turning the pages, using cute bookmarks, and - until the last couple years - collecting them (dwindling shelf space now keeps my book buying habit in check).
But during a recent library board meeting (I'm a board trustee), our librarian mentioned the library's borrowing service for audio books. Many people don't use it, she said. So, out of curiosity, I downloaded the app called Libby a few days ago to my phone and spent So. Much. Time. looking through the available titles. I have a new release called The Lost Apothecary on hold at the moment, but I was able to borrow Melissa Ferguson's Meet Me in the Margins. Listening to it while I drive is FUN! I never thought I'd enjoy an audio book this much.
Are you a fan of audio books?

Two weeks until Love, Lies and Literature releases! It's been a busy week getting all the behind-the-scenes details squared away for the book. The paperback version is live now.
Getting to know the Evan Hollis character as I wrote the story was easy. He's a little like me in that he's quiet and takes everything in stride. But he's also guilty of reading into situations a little too much sometimes. Here's a funny scene when Cora volunteers to help him get Dog-Eared Books ready to host the best-selling author Renn Stone. He's so out of his element running his sister's bookstore while she travels that you can't help but feel sorry for him.
“I called earlier to see if you decided where to set up the signing table. I forgot to ask when I saw you,” Cora said. Her voice through the phone made her sound so close as he sat in the quiet confines of his truck.
“I’m moving some shelves. The table will go up front like you suggested.” Honestly, he hadn’t given it a thought since the other day when Cora asked. Time was running out though.
“That’s good. It’ll be a big job. Would you like some help?”
The question surprised him. Evan pumped his fist, hitting his elbow on the center console. In the backseat, Axel let out a soft woof.
“I don’t want to trouble you. Don’t you have enough to worry about?” Even as the words tumbled forth, Evan regretted self-sabotaging. What was he saying?
“Oh, no trouble at all,” she said hurriedly. “How about Sunday?”
Evan caught his reflection in the rearview mirror. His eyes crinkled from smiling. He cleared his throat in an effort to keep his voice steady this time. “Sunday is good.”
They said goodbye with a tentative time set for Sunday afternoon.
Evan angled the rearview mirror down so he could see Axel who sat at attention in the backseat. The dog's eyes met his in the mirror.
“I’ve got another date, buddy.”
Axel cocked his head to the side as if questioning Evan’s definition of a date.
“Okay, so she’s just helping me move things around the store. But she could have let me do it myself. That counts for something, right?”
The dog let out a grumble.
“You do wonders for my self-esteem, you know that?”
Axel disappeared from view as he lay down again. Evan shifted the truck and they were on their way to the shop. He turned on some music, whistling along.
He didn’t care what Axel thought. Evan was going to count Sunday as a date.

There are so many reasons I love to write small-town romance: getting to know close-knit communities, the quirky festivals, and the people who come together to help their neighbors pull through whatever life throws their way. It just seems like the perfect setting to stage a romance. You'll get that as a backdrop and more within the pages of this sweet, small-town collection of romances. There are dozens to choose from.

I'm flying to Denver this weekend to spend a few days with my mom. I've got a few new books on my Kindle for the occasion, much more than I'll be able to get through unless I'm stuck in the airport (fingers crossed that doesn't happen! - I shouldn't even think it!). I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
