I'm a bit frazzled this morning so I'll keep it short. I flew home last night from Denver and a visit with my mom to help my husband pack for HIS trip. After a quick dinner and a tour around the yard with him to show me what he'd worked on landscaping this week, I unpacked, started a load of laundry, then fell into bed. Plane rides always exhaust me. Plus I Ubered for the first time which was stressful enough. It went smoothly after I downloaded the app and booked a ride to the airport, but it's the unknown that gets me. I'm a planner. I need to know how things will go down. That said, I'm sticking close to home today. I'll plant some more flowers, take the dog around the lake, and do a little work on the next book.
One more week until Love, Lies and Literature marks its debut! I'm feeling a little sad that I'm saying good-bye to Hendricks and Blueberry Point Lodge and all of these characters that I've come to know these last three years. But I'm REALLY excited to move on to a new series.
Here's another little excerpt from a scene with Cora thinking back to the time when she and Evan shared their ill-fated date:
Cora had let herself think about possibilities after Evan asked her out for coffee that first time. So convinced that they’d hit it off, she wondered what might happen beyond their first date. Her tendency to daydream about such things led her to imagining a wedding in the family bookstore with a small reception outside on the lawn. Or maybe at the library. She’d pictured book-themed centerpieces and book cover keychains for guest favors, one of Renn Stone’s romances, no doubt. Beyond the wedding, their honeymoon might include touring some of the stunning European libraries like Biblioteca Marciana in Venice or the Austrian National Library. Her imagination knew no bounds.
But when it became clear there wouldn’t be a second outing, her disappointment morphed into dissecting what had gone wrong.
Oh, Cora. Don’t dwell if the date was so bad, her friend Janie Wendell had said the next day. Just chalk it up as an OAD.
A what? she’d asked. If she hadn’t been feeling so sorry for herself, Cora would’ve found the acronym using the same letters as DOA amusing.
A one and done, her friend had said. Janie had a talent for acronyms. Cora called them Janie-isms.
Sound advice, Cora reasoned. If only it helped erase the date with Evan Hollis from her memory. That was the trouble with daydreams. They never came true.
