Some of you may know that I worked for newspapers before deciding to write fiction full time. Sadly, job prospects in journalism are tough to find these days, especially in print journalism which has been in decline for decades. I've noticed our regional paper getting thinner and thinner. My small-town newspaper is published by a company which also oversees many other weekly newspapers for surrounding towns in the county, often sharing content amongst the editions.
That work model is what inspired the Lakeshore Weekly, the fictional newspaper where interim editor Cam Beckett lands when he comes to stay at Blueberry Point Lodge. There he meets Mila who works her magic with the breakfast buffet as the kitchen manager. What's that saying, that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach? Little does Mila know, Cam has fallen for her sweet pastries⏤and her! So here's a little sneak peak at Cam Beckett, the laid-back writer guy who falls hard for our dear pastry queen in LOVE, LIES and LEMON PIE, releasing September 28th.

Cam stretched his arms over his head and leaned back, hooking his hands together behind his head. He stared across the empty office, a daydream settling around him like a warm blanket. It wasn’t hard to imagine the tone of Mila's voice, the soft smile she’d given him when Cam had looked up from taking notes yesterday during the interview.
It was silly, he knew. Carrying this crush around with him like some poor, starry-eyed teenager. But the morning he’d come down to breakfast after his first night’s stay at Blueberry Point Lodge, he knew immediately there was something special about Mila Warner. She stood next to another guest as they looked over the breakfast buffet. The woman gushed that she’d never seen such a sumptuous arrangement of food. And Mila looked like she was drinking in the woman’s praise as if she were parched for thirst. Mila listened, her mouth slightly opened in awe, a smile lighting her whole face. Then Mila had glanced at him as he descended the stairs and the illumination touched him too.
It was a moment, as they say. And he’d been captivated ever since.

The second book in the Silver Leaf Falls novella series releases this coming Friday! I read an early version of this sweet romance in July and really loved Katie's and Cooper's story. I know you'll love it as much as I did!
On a side note about the series: it has been really exciting researching the area where fictional Silver Leaf Falls is set. The six authors decided to write these books based on the small towns in east central Vermont. You'll find covered bridges, village greens, and crystal clear streams in our stories, similar to what you'd find near Lake Champlain if you know the area.
