Say Hello to Chase * Clean My Shelves Winners

April 21, 2021

Hello Dear Readers:

Next week Book #3 in the Blueberry Point series arrives to the Kindle nearest you! LOVE, LIES and LULLABIES isn't even out yet and I'm hard at work on Book #4, coming this September. To be honest, the last week before a new book makes its debut is the most nerve-wracking. Questions like Will readers like it? and Did my editor and I catch every typo and inconsistency? run rampant through my thoughts. But I'm getting better at ignoring that pesky voice. I know this book is ready; I'm excited for you to read it. Instead, I turn my focus elsewhere⏤to the new writing project, to neglected housework, to painting the room that should have been finished weeks ago. And spring is here, which usually means there are gardens to uncover and cold-season veggies to plant, but just not today. We got snow this morning (*big sigh*). April can be cruel in Illinois.

Last week you met Wynne Terry, the heroine in Love, Lies and Lavender. Today, Chase Ford wants to introduce himself. He's Wynne's childhood best friend, the one who unwittingly broke her heart senior year in high school. He has no idea how her feelings for him changed all those years ago. If there was one thing Wynne excelled at, it was walking away. In this scene, Chase sees Wynne for the first time in ten years:

Chase didn’t expect the almost overwhelming attraction to the woman standing in front of him to blaze into his chest when she turned toward him. He anticipated seeing his old friend again, not this stunning imposter who looked like Wynne Terry’s older, more-polished twin.

The few minutes it took to stand over the buffet and load his plate offered a chance to get his act together. He didn’t realize how unglued he was until he fumbled the utensils in his hand and they clattered to the floor. Embarrassed, he apologized to the waitress as she retrieved them at his feet. Another fork tumbled to the floor when he replaced the first set.

Wynne had been a gawky teenager herself, with braces and straw-tinted hair that caught every leaf and twig blowing along the North Shore as they ran through the woods behind their houses on River Rock Road. He used to think of her as some mythical forest nymph because she was always outside, even in the winter, setting out apple cores and carrot peels for the deer and stale bread for the squirrels. They’d grown up in the same neighborhood until Wynne’s family built a home on the outskirts of town. That didn’t cause them to drift apart though. If anything, it made their friendship stronger. Wynne picked him up every day in her little blue Focus before school once she had her license. And their study sessions in the school library extended to Saturdays at Two Tree Coffee whenever his sports schedule allowed.

But here was Wynne with her honey-hued hair cut just below her shoulders, staring at him through the same wide hazel eyes with a mixture of fascination and indifference. The angles of her face were sharper, and there was a confident, polished air about her that he found disarming. Wynne the girl had morphed into a woman during the time he saw her last.

Because the Ford family is a prominent name in town, Chase lives with a secret that might change Wynne's mind about him. Find out what she uncovers when her class reunion brings her back to her hometown. April 29th is coming fast!

Rule #3: Avoid horridly handsome exes at all costs!

"I really enjoyed this sweet, clean romance. The author did a great job of creating complex characters with flaws and weaknesses, but great chemistry." - Amazon reviewer
