An email popped into my inbox the other night, a pleasant surprise from someone whose junior high class I visited several years ago.

Hi Dawn, Do you remember me?

This teacher asked if I'd be willing to come again next week to talk with her book club kids about The Upside of Down, a middle-grade novel I published in 2016. Of course, I told her, I'd love to.

I haven't talked about this book since the last time she hosted me, but it was such a pleasurable, if arduous journey writing it, that I can't help but revisit it. And book club kids are the best audience. They want to know about the writing process and how to get published, and their enthusiasm about books, reading, and meeting a real author warms my heart. I'm really looking forward to it.

With Christmas coming next month, I've been busy working on a bonus scene in LOVE, LIES and SLEIGH RIDES for a fellow writer's literary advent calendar she sends out in December. I'll share that here when it's ready along with an accompanying yummy holiday recipe.
