Hey ,
When I was much younger, my dad used to say something that stuck with me.
He’d say, “Do everything possible to get above 100 marks if it's possible. Because even if they cut your score, you’ll still end up with an A.”
I didn’t fully understand it back then but now I do.
What he was really teaching me was this: aim high. Go big. Don’t settle for average.
Because a fraction of a big number is still big,
but a fraction of a small number… is almost nothing.
Let’s be honest.
Most people don’t fail because they’re not talented.
They fail because they’re playing too small.
We’ve become so comfortable staying within what’s familiar.
We call it “being realistic” but deep down, it’s fear.
You’re a content creator and you’ve mastered 20-second videos?
Why not try a 2-minute one?
Why not start a YouTube channel?
You’re a business owner doing ₦100k in revenue every month?
Why not aim for ₦500k?
You won’t know how capable you are until you stretch.
There are seasons where you start small and that’s okay.
But once you’ve found your rhythm, staying small is a trap.
Many times, the reason we “play it safe” is because we don’t want to fail.
But here’s the truth:
Playing small doesn’t protect you from failure, it only guarantees stagnation.
If you want to be great, take big steps.
Make bold moves.
Take that leap that scares you.
Pitch that client that feels “too big.”
Launch that project that feels impossible.
You can’t reach greatness by staying comfortable.
Think about it this way.
A student who scores 95 might still end up with an A if the lecturer reduces the mark.
But the one who scores 50 has no margin for anything.
Life is the same.
Push beyond the minimum so that even if life “cuts” your efforts, you’ll still land strong.
So here’s my question to you this weekend:
Where have you been playing small in your life?
And what’s one big move you can make before the year ends?
Stop shrinking yourself to fit small spaces.
You were made to take up more room.
Go big.
Tell me, what’s one big decision or action you’re committing to before this year ends? I’d love to hear from you.
Your Fave,
Darasimi
