It's all but confirmed at this point: the BMW M3 CS is going to make a comeback. The car has been spotted several times doing the rounds BMW's usual proving ground, the Nurburgring. As it gets closer to its launch date, we're bound to see it drop some camo but for now, the psychedelic wrap BMW uses to cover up its prototypes is working wonders at keeping us in the dark.
The render artist used some spy photos and BMW's own officially camouflaged photos of the 2 Series to create the design, so it likely looks pretty close to what the final product will look like.
A little over a month after BMW released their own "Spy" shots of the disguised 2-Series, our photographers have managed to snag some more detailed pictures of the upcoming coupe. The photos give us one of the last unofficial looks at the 2022 2-Series coupe before an official reveal at Goodwood on the 8th of July, 2021.
The BMW M440i is a fast car, even by sports car standards. The E60 and E61 generations actually made history and became the fastest cars in their respective segments back when they were new, and it was all thanks to their massive 5.0 liter V10 engines under the hood. Comparing the M440i against the E61 M5 Touring is not exactly the fairest exercise out there.
Even with the dual-clutch auto instead of a manual, this is BMW's defining car.
M4 Competition's 444-horsepower 3.0-liter inline-six and, in this case, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This is BMW showing that it knows how to build a killer little coupe, exhilarating and humming with nervous energy.
The BMW M5 CS is the car everyone's talking about right now, probably closely followed by the dynamic M3 and M4 duo. They took both an M5 CS and a regular M5 to the dyno to see how they stack up against each other.
Obviously, the new G80 BMW M3 Competition has moved on massively since the original E30 M3 first hit the scene in the late '80s. Still, it's interesting to see where the lineage began and where it is now and just how far it's come. The E30 M3 uses a 2.3 liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that makes 215 horsepower, while the G80 BMW M3 Competition uses a 3.0 liter twin-turbo I6 that makes 503 horsepower.
So rather than the 3.0 liter twin-turbo S58 engines from the X3 M and X4 M, the ALPINA XD3 and XD4 use a 3.0 liter quad-turbo engine with 290 kW and a monstrous 800 Nm of torque. According to ALPINA, the XD3 and XD4 can hit 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Chris Harris is selling his beloved 1996 BMW 'M5' Touring and while it didn't roll out of the factory as an M5, it has been lovingly modified and essentially turned into one. Harris doesn't know how many miles the engine has done, but suggests it is probably around the 100,000-mile mark. The car sits lower than a standard BMW M5 Touring but as it doesn't have the same trick suspension, it has a softer ride and less body control.
The new BMW iX is set to write history for the Bavarian brand as it will become the technology flagship of a company that's no stranger to innovation. The engineers from Munich put together a short clip showcasing the absolute 'need to know' features of the iX. They actually had to limit themselves because there are so many interesting things to talk about on this car, it would've otherwise taken a lot longer to go over everything.
The BMW E30 M3 has become a real collector's car in recent years and a particularly clean Johnny Cecotto variant is currently up for sale in the UK. Johnny Cecotto was a racing prodigy and at the age of 19, won the motorcycle road racing world championship.
BMW will not only make its first-ever world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021 but will also launch its all-new 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupé there on the 8th of July. It will become the platform to showcase the new BMW M5 CS, the most powerful BMW M production car ever, and will also become the stage for its two much-awaited UK premieres, the new fully-electric BMW iX and BMW i4, says the automaker.
BMW has been making cars for decades and got off to a strong electric start with the i3 and i8, but since then, they've been a little quiet. Fully Charged's East Asia correspondent Elliot Richards visits the BMW Brilliance factory in Shenyang, China, to see the manufacturing process of the new iX3, its first all-electric car.
