A man was gifted a parcel of fertile land. When it was handed over to him, he was impressed with the size and layout of the land. It had some lakes, marshes, pockets of colourful flowers, a few trees and a vast expanse of arable land.
His benefactor said to him, "With this, you never have to worry about ever being poor again." He received the gift with great glee and gratitude. He thanked the generous man profusely as he signed the relevant documents. Soon after, they went to their different homes.
Several months passed and this gentleman who had been gifted the land pretty much returned to his typical routine - hustling in the city - getting by with every little opportunity that came long. Far from being rich, he was living from hand to mouth. Once in a while, he would think about the farm and say to himself, "In a few months, I will head to the farm to harvest my crops and I will make a lot of money"
When the 12-month cycle was complete and he made his way to the farm. As he approached the farmland on a motorcycle, he began to second-guess himself. The terrain looked very different. The roads were narrower and there was a musty stench in the air as he approached his farm.
He kept moving against all odds and when he eventually arrived, he was sorely disappointed. It was all overgrown with weeds. It was marked with a few dead animals, broken branches, darting squirrels and other things. No crops had grown. No harvest to sell.
You may be thinking - "What was this man expecting?"
How could he have been expecting to reap where he didn't sow?
He was gifted the farmland, but he still needed to cultivate it and sow the right seeds. His ignorance, overt excitement or sheer indiscipline led him into inactivity which brought him disappointment.
You have been gifted this farmland called a New Year. However, you won't automatically reap beautiful things just because you're alive. You will need to be intentional.
What harvests do you desire? What do you want to see in your life by December 31st? Be clear about them and start sowing the seeds NOW.
You want a great body by December 31st? Sow the seeds of a disciplined diet and regular exercising.
You want to make N1,000,000,000? (One billion) ....As I typed that, it actually felt so small... AMEN!, sow the seeds of research, trading, content creation or any other activity that can fast-track your financial increase.
You want to be on fire for God all through the year? Sow the seeds of prayer, bible study and fellowship DAILY.
Your seed is a prophecy of your future just like actions in the present predict the harvests of your future.
Your farmland shows you what's possible, but it's your disciplined cultivation of it that determines the fruit you harvest. It's not enough to be gifted with land, you must sow your seeds.
Tomorrow, we shall continue with more wisdom to deliver more powerful results this year.
