You’re Training Like a Pro… But Living Like One?

There’s a pattern I keep seeing…
And after over 30,000 health assessments, it’s impossible to ignore.
Busy professionals come to me wanting to lose weight, improve fitness, and feel more energised.
But underneath that…
They’re exhausted.
They’re juggling 40+ hour work weeks…
Trying to squeeze in 5–6 hours of training…
Running on poor sleep…
Eating on the go…
And still pushing themselves to the limit on the bike.
It’s like working two full-time jobs.
One in the office.
One on the bike.
And eventually… something gives.
I saw this clearly not just with client, but in myself.
When I was training for Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, I pushed hard for months.
Structured training. Sacrifices. High intensity.
And it paid off—I hit a PB.
But here’s the truth most people don’t talk about…
There is no way I could have sustained that level all year round without burning out.
And that’s exactly what so many cyclists over 40 are trying to do.
Train like a professional…
While living a full, demanding life.
That’s where the problem lies.
Because performance isn’t just about how hard you can push…
It’s about how well your training fits your life.
Sometimes, improving as a cyclist doesn’t mean doing more.
It means doing less, but better.
It means:
• Training with purpose, not just volume
• Protecting your sleep like it matters (because it does)
• Fueling properly instead of grabbing food on the go
• Accepting that not every week will be perfect
And most importantly…
Building a version of fitness that enhances your life—
Not one that competes with it.
Because what’s the point of getting fitter…
If you’re too tired to enjoy your family,
Too drained to perform at work,
Or constantly feeling like you’re falling behind?
The goal isn’t just to be a better cyclist.
It’s to be a healthier, more energised human being
On and off the bike.
That’s exactly what we focus on inside the Cycle Lean Collective.
Helping you find that balance so you can:
✔ Improve performance
✔ Stay consistent
✔ And actually enjoy the process
Without burning out.
So let me ask you
What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing right now when it comes to balancing training with life?
Hit reply and let me know. I read every response.
