Why your FTP is stuck (and it’s not your training)

There’s something I noticed after 30,000+ health assessments…
And it completely changed how I look at FTP.
For years, I thought the answer was simple:
More intervals.
More volume.
More suffering.
That’s what most cyclists believe too.
So they push harder. Add extra sessions. Chase fatigue like it’s a badge of honor.
But here’s what I kept seeing—over and over again…
Cyclists with:
- High blood pressure
- Poor sleep
- Low energy
- Stubborn weight
…stacking hard training on top of a body that wasn’t even ready to adapt.
And then wondering why their FTP wouldn’t budge.
At some point, it clicked.
Your FTP doesn’t improve just because you train harder.
It improves when your body is healthy enough to actually respond to training.
And that’s where the biggest breakthroughs happen.
Not from adding more…
But from fixing what’s underneath:
- Dialing in sleep
- Improving nutrition
- Getting body composition under control
- Addressing basic health markers
That’s when training finally works.
That’s when FTP starts moving again.
