A Sauna Mishap and the Power of Focus

Ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Well, let me tell you about my recent weekend adventure that turned into a bit of a fiasco.
But don't worry, there's a valuable lesson in here for all of us!
Who doesn't love a good sauna? My partner and I certainly do. So when I heard about this amazing sauna and cold plunge spot in Southeast London from a colleague (and saw it all over social media), I thought,
"Perfect! I'll treat us to a relaxing day out."
Last Friday, during my lunch break, I quickly hopped online to book a couple of spaces. With only three slots left, I felt pretty lucky to snag them. Every other session was fully booked!
Fast forward to Saturday morning. We were both excited as we trekked across London, ready for some hot sauna action. It took up a good chunk of our morning, but we didn't mind. The anticipation was building!
When we arrived, the place looked fantastic – a little oasis in the not-so-picturesque surroundings of Southeast London.
We were just about to get started when the staff went to check us in. And that's when it hit me like a bucket of cold water (pun intended).
They couldn't find my name on the list. Confused, I double-checked my booking. And there it was, staring me right in the face – I'd booked for the day before when I was at work.
Talk about a facepalm moment! I'd made one hell of a mistake, completely derailing what could have been a nice day out. But how did this happen?
The answer was simple: my focus wasn't on booking the appointment. I was too busy multitasking – eating my lunch, thinking about my afternoon tasks, and planning my evening.
There's a limit to how many things we can focus on at once. As you can imagine, I definitely learned that the hard way.
These days, it's so easy to get caught up in doing a million things at once. I mean, how many of us find ourselves scarfing down lunch while scrolling through our phones, or juggling a bunch of different projects at the same time?
I know I've definitely been there!
I felt incredibly guilty for turning our day into a complete write-off. But you know what? It served as a powerful reminder of something we all need to hear: focus on one task at a time.
Just like when you're working out and need to focus on your form, we need to apply that same level of concentration to our daily tasks. Keep your phone away when eating or going for a walk. When working on projects, give each one your undivided attention.
This experience reminded me of the importance of mindfulness and focus in everything we do – whether it's booking a sauna appointment or tackling a challenging workout.
