Why I Refuse To Hide Behind Bots
Feb 18, 2026 8:31 am
This weekend, my partner and I had one of those small but incredibly frustrating problems…
Our water pressure dropped.
Not slightly.
We’re talking “is this a shower or light rain?” level pressure.
So naturally, we called Thames Water.
And that’s where the real problem began.
Getting through to them was harder than the water flow itself.
Press this.
Say that.
Describe your issue to the automated system.
Try again.
Repeat.
By the time we finally got through to a human, we were already irritated.
When we did speak to someone, the solution was simple.
There were works being carried out down the road that were affecting our supply.
That’s it.
Nothing dramatic. Nothing complicated.
But it took ages to get a straight answer.
And it got me thinking…
What happened to being able to just talk to a human first?
Why does everything now feel like a maze of bots, automated replies and “we’ll get back to you in 3–5 working days”?
This is exactly why, in my coaching, you don’t get passed around.
You don’t speak to a chatbot.
You don’t get generic training plans.
You don’t get templated nutrition advice.
You speak to me.
When your legs feel flat before a key session…
When your weekend ride leaves you unusually fatigued…
When you’re unsure whether to push or recover…
You message me.
Because cyclists over 40 don’t need more automation.
You need clarity.
Structure.
A plan built around your life, your work schedule, and your recovery capacity.
If something isn’t working, we fix it.
No ticket numbers.
No automated responses.
No waiting days for clarity.
Just direct coaching.
If you want that level of support, the kind where you actually speak to a human who understands your training, your goals and your constraints.
Book a call and learn more about our coaching.
Let’s make sure your training runs smoother than our water did this weekend.
