When I first spoke with my client “M’, one of his biggest obstacles was finding the time to train effectively around his busy work schedule.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Having been cycling for nearly 5 years and having completed a host of sportives this year, he was only finding time to train twice a week and once at the weekend.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

As a result, this was impacting his ability to climb well and complete his goal of a sub 8 hour 100 mile sportive next year.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Having tried coaching platforms before like Trainer Road but felt that the plans were too rigid and lacked any personalisation. “M” was looking for something that was more focused on the individual.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

So when “M” decided to join 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, our pilot 10-week group coaching programme. We focused on building a training plan around his work and life commitments and most importantly his main weakness, climbing.⁣⁣

One of the easiest ways we could support this was by helping him better fuel his body to shift some kgs and ride stronger.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

So by separating his fuelling strategy for when he is out riding to when he wasn’t allowed “M” to shift 4 kg in just 10 weeks and increase his watts per kg on the bike.⁣⁣

Separating how you fuel on the bike was key in making sure that he had sufficient energy to train and ride well. Making sure that sessions can be completed at the highest levels with minimal impact.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Then when off the bike, he focused on having a small calorie deficit to help slowly shift the weight without underfuelling which can have a knock effect on how well he can train.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

This is one of the key mistakes I see clients make when trying to lose weight with cycling. They are so focused on being in a calorie deficit that it impacts their ability to ride and train well. Their cycling then suffers and they wonder why they are not seeing any improvements in their fitness.⁣⁣

So separating the two will allow you to progress slowly and sustainably with both your weight loss and performance goals.⁣⁣
