❤️ Hurt/Comfort: Is it a trope or a genre? ❤️

Hey Friend!

I can't believe the holidays and end of the year is almost upon us. While it's been rough here, I worry it's going to get worse come January. This is the time I reflect on my love of hurt/comfort books. I recently opened myself up to why I love writing them so much and made a post about it on my socials.

Hurt Comfort for me isn’t a trope or genre... It’s therapy.

It doesn’t matter if I write sweet romance or dark romance. All my books have a hurt/comfort element.

I LOATHE to be vulnerable. Vulnerability means danger and risk. It means giving someone a peek inside my soul and what makes me tick. Or to gaslight me, which has been very common throughout my life. You will see that very deep-rooted issue in most of my books. That and therapy. Yet, here I am being vulnerable, but I think sometimes I feel I’m just a blank person on here not sharing much, so this is me sharing lol.

Here comes why I write what I do. It’s CATHARTIC. It’s a way to allow me to be vulnerable without openly admitting anything. It gives me a chance to express and share a bit of myself in fictional characters. And my characters have a lot of myself in them. It allows me to let go of my own pain and put it to ‘paper,’ almost like writing in a journal. It’s freeing. It’s why I find writing a lot more rewarding than I ever did creating art.

All in all, I don’t write just for fun and to immerse yourself in a world where you can let go. I try to write to remind ourselves that no matter where we come from, we all need moments to be heard. And writing a story itself has a profoundly positive effect on my mentality.

Do you love reading hurt/comfort stories? If so, why? What makes you drawn to them?

❤️❤️❤️❤️

I didn’t want him, but I had to have him.

Blaze (Aiden)

I ruined my cush life five years ago. I came from wealth and was kicked out with nothing but the clothes on my back. Even the man I’d been with, who had mastered my mind and body, turned his back on me. Since then, I haven’t found anyone who could meet my… needs. That is, until Jaxon ‘Ajax’ Kean. We hate each other. No way around it. He’s the last person I want, but he’s the only one who can give me what I need. How do I convince him to help me without tossing my pride into the garbage?

Ajax (Jaxon)

Aiden ‘Blaze’ Reese is a prick. Just looking at him makes me want to punch things, especially his face. Ever since he hurt my best friend Stix, I’ve wanted him to pay. But after a nearly violent kiss one night, I can’t get him out of my head. Two weeks later, he pushes me to do something I want to regret but don’t. Blaze, of all people, needs me. Can I give in to him? Can my mental health take it? Does he even deserve it?

Nero Hunter is tired. He’s tired of early mornings chasing down skips. He’s tired of Shamu jokes and dealing with idiots. He's tired of being alone. But agreeing to do one little favor for a friend turns the tide and brings Nero face-to-face with his destiny.

Felix White is unlucky. When his life is threatened and he’s hauled into police custody for safekeeping, the last thing he expects is to meet his fated mate. Especially when his mate is a giant killer whale shifter, who is also his new bodyguard.

But there is more to the plot against Felix than meets the eye, and Nero and his brothers have to work together to figure out who is after Felix before it’s too late...before Nero loses the mate he just found.

Black & White is book one in the Organization for the Return of Criminals and Assets (ORCA) series featuring an orca shifter art thief turned bounty hunter, a sea otter shifter hacker who might have pissed off the wrong people, and a group of orca brothers who will do anything—even if it’s not quite legal—to save the newest member of their family.
