Let's talk about your email privacy

Hi ,

Over the past few years I have been increasingly concerned about data privacy and the data mining that happens in your own "private" email accounts - especially gmail.

I've been a big gmail user for years - have multiple gmail accounts as you probably do, as well. But data mining has gotten truly invasive and you should consider absolutely nothing you put in a gmail as private to you anymore.

For that reason as well as other reasons Bill and I took the step a few years ago of setting up a secure email address for each of us through Proton Mail. While we still have our gmail accounts and use them we never use them anymore for anything financial or medical.

We've watched Proton Mail (that's my affiliate link) grow over the past year to start including shortened email addresses and a drive that will one day be like Google drive. They also have a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which I believe it is wise to use, especially if you are in a hotel or on another public internet access.

Proton has compiled an article about your email privacy and believe me if you read it you will learn a lot! We are slowly changing our habits and putting more of our internet communications behind a secure system, and I encourage you to do the same. It's part of running your business and your household safely and securely.

I know that dealing with stuff like this isn't the sexiest thing to do, but personally I feel like I'll be super-glad we have starting using more secure services because we read more about data mining and security breaches fairly often now.

Keep your business and your money safe, is my number one rule. You can read more here or take a look at Proton's services and see if it's smart for you.

To your sweet success,

Sue Painter
