You may (or may not) recall that in the first email I sent you, I asked about the book you can't get out of your head. Lay your recommendations on me, I said.
Some of you have, which is an amazing gift. "My best friend is the man who'll git me a book I ain't read," as Abraham Lincoln said (or supposedly said β I'm always suspicious of quotes attributed to him because we Americans love putting words in his mouth).
I want to pass one of those amazing gifts on.
One reader, Evelyn, highly recommended The Midnight Sea β free at the moment β and other books by Kat Ross. And oh, that novel is fabulous. I don't even want to sketch out the premise because part of the joy of reading this deep fantasy is letting the story unfold with all its surprises. It's also beautifully written, with paragraphs like this: "For it's not the loss that undoes us in the end, I realized. It's the regret, for words unspoken, small kindnesses withheld."
So thank you, Evelyn, for your kindness in telling me about this novel! Thank you to everyone who hit reply and shared their current favorite book or books. Keep 'em coming.
And by the way, my best friend does give me great books I haven't read, so I guess Abe was right. =|:-)
