What do you read for pure, unadulterated comfort?
Unless you've just come here through a portal from another dimension, you know this is no idle question. A year into this pandemic, comfort is an absolute necessity.
Awesome reader Saadat Tayyibah put it this way as we were chatting about books: "It makes the world a little less bleak when you can immerse yourself into another world that's so vividly realistic."
I agree! And it's always interesting to hear what someone's go-to comfort read is. Sometimes I want a new-to-me book, but sometimes I just need a story I know well for the literary equivalent of a hug.
When I asked on Instagram, people's answers were varied and intriguing. The Vampire Academy series. Watership Down ("Childhood favorite turned grown-up security blanket"). Anything by Grace Draven. Beauty and the Mustache.
What do you look for in your comfort reading? Do you have a go-to book? (Love to hear about it. Reply to let me know!)
And now the results of last newsletter's survey, when I asked you to pick the genres you enjoy: Fantasy was the clear favorite. (I mean, makes sense, you probably wouldn't have signed up for the newsletter of a fantasy author if you didn't like fantastical stories at least a little.)
Cool to see how everything else stacked up! Here's the ranking:
β¨ Fantasy
π Fantasy + romance
π½ Sci-fi
π Historical fiction
π Mystery
π Romance
π€£ Humor
π΄ββ οΈ Action/adventure
πͺ Thriller/horror/suspense
π§ Literary fiction
Thanks for helping me get a better handle on what you like!
