I like all sorts of book genres, to be clear, but today I'm in your inbox to argue that one is Clearly the Most Fun.
Even though you may not have technically heard of it before.
It has everything:
Fantasy? Oh yes.
Romance? Of course.
But it also twists history. So you have books with strict societal rules just asking to be broken, corsets and frock coats, the be-still-my-heart of a flash of ankle or a pair of well-timed rolled-up sleeves. And other books set in some version of the frontier, with all the plot possibilities that come with that. And still others in cool periods that are even cooler with magic (or other fantastical elements).
That's gaslamp fantasy. "Where were you my whole life" is what I said when I realized this was an actual thing. Hilariously after I'd written a gaslamp fantasy trilogy without knowing that's what it was. (This is more common than you'd think.)
If you have heard of this genre, do me a favor and hit reply to tell me: What was your introduction?
If you're thinking "pshaw, this genre isn't the most fun," hit reply to FIGHT ME. (I have the rolled-up sleeves. I am ready.)
Whether you're a gaslamp convert or a skeptic in need of more evidence, I've got just the thing for you: 20-plus of these books on sale for 99 cents. Including one of mine, the feminist fairy tale Into the Bargain.
Among the books here: The Fire in the Glass (Edwardian X-Men, but even cooler), A Coup of Tea (ex-princess finds a new sort of power), Street Witch (when society's decided you have the wrong kind of magic, what do you do?) and many more.
The sale's only through Friday, so snaffle while you can.
You made it to the end! You're awesome. (Of course.) And oh hey, here are my latest books ... including that one on sale this week.
