Guess What?! Feeling Like My Old Self Again (and You're Invited!)
May 18, 2025 3:06 pm
Hey ,
Remember how I was telling you all about the post-pandemic funk? Yeah, the one where my workouts felt like a chore, my body felt…blah, and even lacing up my skates felt heavy? Well, you guys know I've been navigating some big life changes lately too, with the job loss and all that jazz. Honestly, for a while last spring and summer, comfort food was my only comfort, and anything outside my very small, very safe bubble felt like climbing Mount Everest.
But you know me, I'm a forever optimist on and off the ice so I've been doing a lot of soul-searching (and meditation!), and I'm finally feeling like that fog is lifting. That whole "my identity isn't just my job" thing? I'm actually starting to believe it! And with that shift, that old familiar spark for the rest of my life – you know, skating, coaching, being present with my kiddos – it's starting to flicker back to life. I'm actively trying to carve out a schedule that reflects all the things that matter, not just work.
And guess what serendipitous thing happened? My neighbor, in a moving frenzy, practically gave me her Peloton! You guys know my history with bikes – one traumatic spin class with some serious soreness you know where - and I swore them off forever! But necessity (knee rehab!) and a good deal collided, and suddenly, I'm a reluctant cyclist. I'd been using the gym bike with the Peloton app for the last three months, but between school, meetings, and kid-taxi duty, it just hasn’t been sustainable.
Now? Hello, 5:30 AM basement spin sessions! It's been a game-changer. This week was my first week with it at home, and the sheer joy of hopping off the bike and straight into a yoga flow or a quick meditation, with my stuff right where I need it? Pure bliss. Even those short 15-20 minute rides are making a difference. I even felt it on the ice today, just coaching – more energy, more connected. It's like this bike was the little nudge I desperately needed to get back into a routine and feel good in my own skin again. Plus, let's be real, a discounted Peloton? My inner bargain hunter is THRILLED, which is extra motivation to actually use it!
I've also been trying to be more consistent with breakfast – usually a protein shake. Whether it's Shakeology long-term or something else, who knows, but having that one less decision in the morning has been surprisingly helpful. You know how I get when I'm starving later because I haven't eaten all day! We'll tackle the bigger nutrition stuff soon, but this feels like the most solid start I’ve been able to muster for literal years.
And because we're all in this crazy adulting-with-a-side-of-sport life together, I wanted to share this little win. It's a reminder that it's totally normal to have those longer periods where we feel off our game. Life happens! But we're resilient, and we always have the power to find our way back to the things that make us feel strong and alive. I might not be rocking my pre-pandemic skating physique just yet, but I remember that strength, and I know what it takes to get there. It's just about putting in the work – those bike rides, the Pilates, the gentle strength training for this old knee, and trying to eat like a grown-up when I can!
So, here's the fun part! Summer's here, and you know what that means –challenge group time! I miss our little crew, and even though things have changed with Beachbody (it's an affiliate thing now, so no pressure!), I still love the energy of us all working towards something together. This month, I'm feeling the urge to get back into the swing of things, focusing on nutrition (since that's my next personal goal!) and keeping each other accountable with our workouts. You pick what type of movement or platform moves you, and I can totally help you find stuff that fits your goals, your sport, and the beautiful chaos of your life.
All the juicy details for this month's challenge are in the next section. Come join me! Let's support each other, share our wins (and our struggles!), and make this summer one where we feel strong, energized, and ready to tackle whatever comes our way – on and off the ice/field/court/waterpark - and carpool!
So excited to do this with you all!
Love,
Coach Holly

Things I’m Loving Right Now:
Obviously my morning routine has gotten a major upgrade, but if you aren’t a morning person or want to start REALLY small (like 5 minutes) to make your mornings just a little brighter, try these 5 Minute Morning Energy Boosters for something to try!
Olive and June Gel Mani System: I've always been a bit intimidated by at-home gel manis – seemed like so much effort! But you guys, I finally caved to the ads that kept showing up on all of my fav podcasts and they were right- it’s a total game-changer. It has a mess-free remover pot, a mistake-fixing tool, a peel-off base, and a no-chip gel that hardens under their light in just TWO minutes per coat! Seriously, flawless 20-minute manis that last until they peel off cleanly. Obsessed! I even started with the starter kit from Target – my daughter and I are loving it!
It’s a race to the finish for the end of the school year! Let’s Go!
