Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Usually these imagined states end up ominously reflective of our own society.
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Have you ever had a bad hair day? Well, maybe you like it that way! All ages are invited to join us for a fun author visit with Loretta Ellsworth, author of Stars Over Clear Lake, as she introduces her new picture book, Tangle-Knot. The program will include a special story time and craft, then stick around to have your books signed.
“Tangle-Knot is not a word, but it is Fia’s hair. And Fia thinks it is perfect, which is why she refuses to brush it, even though her mom always complains it’s a mess. In fact, it’s more than a mess – it’s a nest for a mother bird and her three colorful eggs!Fia takes excellent care of her birds and shows off her tangle-knot everywhere she goes, attracting a lot of attention. As the spectacle grows, so does Mom’s disapproval. But Fia’s commitment to being herself just might be powerful enough to change her mother’s mind. This whimsical story shines with lighthearted relatability, reminding us the even when our parents just don’t get it, they always want us to be happy.”
