Riveting Fantasy In The City 🏦
May 09, 2024 6:45 pm
If you're signed up to other indie authors' newsletters along with mine, you might have already heard about today's Urban Fantasy Free For All. If not, be sure to check out all the free stories available for urban fantasy addicts like us. I still need to browse the event myself, but I've read a couple of the books involved, including the first one featured in the graphic below. (It's a good one!)
None of my own books are featured this time around, but I figured I'd share with you anyway because all us indie authors are in this thing called "marketing" together. It's hard, and it sucks! 😜 So click on the graphic above and toss all us hopeful authors your love by enjoying a story or two on us. 💖
There's also a BIG gift card giveaway going on right now courtesy of the awesome author who runs Get That Book. So if you lean more towards romance than fantasy, check out the giveaway by clicking on the graphic below. All it takes to enter is your email—NO newsletter signup required 🥳—and then you can earn more entries by following various authors on social media.
If you haven't followed C.L. Carhart on Facebook yet, today you can earn an entry into a big gift card giveaway by doing so. And I'm pretty sure you still earn an entry just by clicking the link to my Facebook page, even if you're already a follower! 🤩 What are you waiting for?
2nd Quarter Goals—New Horizons
After last week's "woe-is-me" newsletter, a handful of readers informed me I should stop setting 15 goals for each quarter since I never get close to finishing all of them. One person told me it would be discouraging to continue along that path...and I suppose they have a fair point. Which means this creatively burnt out author is making a few changes in the second quarter.
Only 11 goals to strive for this time around, and I'll win the quarter as long as I manage to finish half—which means 6. Going to try to crush more than that! 💪
- write, edit, and publish the first novella of a spin-off series starring side characters from Elemental Bloodlines (super excited about this!!!)
- write second novella
- outline third novella (there will be 6 total as usual 😉)
- brain dump all the details for the forthcoming Teutonic saga series...which will star one of the Black Priests from Elemental Bloodlines. Can you guess which one??
- publish paperbacks for Gift of Darkness, Gift of Water, Gift of Wind, and Gift of Snow (I'm WAY behind on this for all you paperback lovers)
- set up email flows for my book shop's newsletter (I've avoided doing this for literally a year now and NEED to get my shop working for me 😬)
- begin business-related mentorship
- run limited-time sales on 3 of my books (first one coming later this month!)
- finish planning US road trip for autumn 2024
- get a haircut (desperately needed; I look like Cousin It)
- walk the neighborhood at least twice per week
What do you think? Will I manage to finish at least six of those goals before the end of June? Which Black Priest (and his witchy partner) will be the stars of the next Teutonic saga? Which side character from Elemental Bloodlines are about to embark on brief journeys of magic and love?
Shoot me a reply and tell me your guesses! Or if you have suggestions for which characters need their own stories, let me know that too. I love taking my readers' opinions into account during the creative process. Even though the "author life" is a pretty solitary experience overall, your support along the way is one of my favorite things about this path I've chosen. 😊
🤍 Snowball Bush 🤍
A while back, my dad planted a snowball bush in his yard, and this year it's got a giant mass of flowers celebrating the wonders of spring. I've yet to see it flower in person since my parents live far away from me, and it flowers for a very short time every spring. But the pictures my dad sent me yesterday warmed my nature-loving heart, so take a look at those beautiful blooms!
Do you have any bushes, trees, or flowers blooming in your yard right now? If so, send me some photos! Despite the wretched waves of pollen and allergies, spring is one of my favorite seasons due to nature's reawakening. I hope you get a chance to go outside and marvel at whatever plants live near you. 🌷
Other Books You Might Like
Along with the Urban Fantasy Free For All linked above (and right there in that sentence yet again), I've got 2 more books for you to take a peek at today. One for readers who love those rough & ready mountain men, and another for those of us who like to fantasize about being in the mafia. 🖤 The first one is free with newsletter signup, and the second is free on all retailers.
Let the games begin…
This trip was supposed to be stress free. A way for me to unplug from the real world and unwind.
Then he shows up.
Amos Briggs. Even his name is sexy.
He also booked this secluded cabin until his house is finished being built nearby. He wants me to leave, but that’s not happening. I need this. The sexy mountain man will just have to find someplace else to stay.
When he suggests a competition to see who gets the cabin, I jump to agree. I’ll win this bet in a day and get back to my vacation.
Except he’s more of a temptation than I anticipated.
In a small town burdened by secrets, Marie lives a life bound by duty and sacrifice. Her days revolve around caring for her sick and abusive mother. But when a mysterious out-of-towner named Matteo arrives, everything changes.
Ignoring her mother's warnings about men, Marie is drawn to Matteo's enigmatic charm and seductive presence. As a member of the mafia, Matteo embodies danger and intrigue, igniting a fire within Marie that she never knew existed. With him, she finds the attention and affection she has always yearned for.
However, beneath Matteo's irresistible exterior lies a secret that could unravel everything they've built.
I hope you find something fun to read amid the pile of books mentioned in today's newsletter, whether by another indie author or one of the twisted stories in my Teutonic Fantasy Realm. As long as you're into love and elemental magic, you'll find something for you in my completed series.
Prefer to read about the same main character for an entire saga? Join Swanie in a dark journey through time and a heart-stopping forbidden romance in His Name Was Augustin.
Prefer to read about different couples in each book as they find their way to love? Leave the mundane world behind by diving into any of the standalones in Elemental Bloodlines.
Meanwhile this author's got to pry her creative brain back into the forefront of her skull in order to tackle a novella fraught with rivals, uncertainties...and a masquerade ball. 🎭 Hope to share some updates with you next week.
In the meantime, stay weird, and happy reading!
