you've probably heard the saying:

“Don't compare yourself to others”

Very satisfying quote right?

But I'll burst your bubble and mine by saying that quote is total B.S

Because the morbid truth is:

Almost everyone throws it around but no one ever truly acts on it…

Because in all honesty…

It's pretty hard NOT to compare yourself to others.

If I didn't compare myself to others…

What would I call success?

How would I know who to learn from?

How would I know I'm on the right track?

Who would I call my heroes?

How would I choose my role models?

Every single day, we're comparing ourselves to others…

Because we're a species that thrives on status.

The successful get more successful…

And the unsuccessful? Well…you know the rest.

And contrary to that saying…

Comparing yourself to others is NOT a bad thing in itself.

Because comparison helps you know how well you're doing for yourself…

It helps you know when to push harder…

It brings out the best in you….

But here's where it gets bad:

When you compare yourself to someone else…

And instead of taking cues and valuable lessons…

You sit on your arse and begin to envy and wish downfall on the person in question.

That's when you totally get murdered.

You see, envy is the No 1 Murderer in the world.

When you envy someone…

You begin to look beyond the person's hard work…

And instead begin coveting what the person has.

And since you're ignoring that person's hardwork…

You don't feel compelled to put in the work.

Instead you spend the bulk of your time hating on the person and wishing downfall on the person in question.

That's what envy does.

Now Comparison is just a harmless action that leads to a two-way street.

It's like this:

COMPARISON

RESPECT & INSPIRATION 

OR

ENVY & JEALOUSY 

Now most people in the world would easily pick the envy option…

Not even regarding the fact that it's more painful and unproductive to hate on than it is to draw inspiration from the person you're comparing yourself with.

And this is the reason I call ENVY the Murderer…

Because at some point in our lives…

We've found ourselves envying and hating on others we deem more  “successful” than us

That's why I say Envy has over 7 Billion confirmed kills…

That means roughly everyone in the world has been affected by its poison.

And that's why I'm making it the topic for today's letter…

So that whenever you feel the urge to envy or hate on someone you feel is more successful than you…

Remember at that moment that you also have an opportunity to draw inspiration from that person.

Imagine you did this every time you wanted to hate on someone…

You'd be totally unstoppable!
