Quality or Quantity?

Sep 24, 2024 9:35 am

, after a long hiatus from my HTEM students, we finally had a call last night…

And I shared with them something I would equally share with you.

It's a client acquisition lesson, and if you're a freelancer looking to land high-paying clients…

You should pay good attention to what I'm about to say.

Are you listening?

Good.

Now here's what I told them:

When it comes to client acquisition, it's not just a game of numbers like most freelancers think…

Of course, numbers are involved.

Because if I pitch 30 potential prospects and you pitch 10…

Common sense already dictates that I have a higher chance of landing a client than you.

So yeah, numbers are involved…

But the mistake most freelancers make is depending on just numbers.

I call these kinds of freelancers "the quantity guys"

These kinds shoot off a lot of poorly written pitches to unqualified prospects.

I have a fairly huge X (Formerly Twitter) account, so I see this daily on Twitter.

I get pitched by people who know absolutely nothing about me and haven't even done due diligence with their research.

For example, someone who has done their research on me would know not to pitch me email marketing…

But ah well, guess what , I still get multiple pitches from people saying they want to write my emails for me.

That's the extent to which most freelancers just play with numbers.

Now I told my students at HTEM that anyone can play with numbers…

But what stands you out and what will shorten the curve and make it faster for you to land a client is when you…

Play with numbers without letting go of quality.

What does this mean?

I'll use myself as an example.

Now if sending out 20 pitches a day would compromise the quality of my pitches and my prospects…

I'd rather reduce it by half and send out 10 quality pitches to 10 qualified prospects.

That way, I am still playing with numbers but at the same time holding on to quality.

So instead of being a "quantity guy" who sends out 100 pitches a day…

Or a "quality guy" who sends out just one pitch a day…

I'll leverage on both quality and quantity to send out the maximum amount I can in a day so I can take advantage of both sides of the coin.

I hope this helps you in your client acquisition game

Stay jiggy
