, One of my good friends, Emerie, came to visit this past Tuesday…

And while he was at my place, we discussed various topics.

We spoke at length about business to even girls and relationships.

During our discussion, one topic we spoke about that struck me was the impact of social media on entrepreneurs.

What prompted the discussion was a question he asked me.

The question was:

“Oxide you've been absent on X (Twitter), what platform have you been on instead since then?”

Now if you've been with me for a while, you'd know that for a while, I was very active on Twitter.

I posted daily and even held periodic space chats…

Within 5 months of building actively on the platform, I had amassed a following of over 30k people.

Then all of a sudden, I stopped.

So when Emerie asked me that question…

I chuckled within me because I knew my reply would shock him.

My reply was: No platform

Yeah ,

All through the time I was away from Twitter till now…

I haven't posted on any social media platform…

Not even IG or my YouTube channel (although I'm planning to start shooting for my YouTube)

He then asked me:

“How are you now making money?”

I knew he was going to ask this, I just knew.

Now there's this notion entrepreneurs have where they think you have to be actively selling a product or service on one or more social media to make money.

But the truth is, you don't.

Of course, selling on social media is effective and very powerful…

It is not a prerequisite to making money online.

Now for the past few months, I have been working with clients I sourced purely from public websites, and reached out to with manual emails marketing.

With little to no social media marketing involved.

All I set up was a direct messaging platform where we could finalize our deals and follow up on my delivery.

And these platforms aren't even big social platforms.

They were platforms like: Google chat, Skype, Discord, and WhatsApp DM

And it was during this period I learned that a lot of times…

The impact social media has on entrepreneurs has more cons than pros

You see, most times:

Social media comes with distractions…

Anxiety…

Feelings of Inferiority…

Unhealthy competition…

And other baggages…

Because in truth, these platforms weren't created to make you money.

They were created to steal your time and attention and sell it to big brands and companies who were able to buy them.

That's the simple truth.

The creator economy was able to turn people like you and me from consumers to people who were able to create wealth from this social media.

But at what cost?

At the cost of distractions…

Imposter syndromes…

Anxiety that comes with chasing vanity metrics…

Cyber bullying…

Just to list but a few.

So you see , sometimes taking a break from social media…

And finding other ways to create wealth without relying on it might be a good idea.

Since my break from social media…

I don't experience anxiety…

And I see my work and what I do differently.

Now I plan to resume using it fairly actively as purely a means to an end…

And not allowing it to influence my emotions and decision like most people do.

Because in my experience, doing the opposite of what most people are doing…

Is how you get results that most people are not getting.
