The moment everything shifted for me

Hello ,
The Fear Paradox:
The thing we fear the most is often the very thing we need to do the most.
As we move deeper into December, I’ve been thinking about the moment that inspired the Coming Home to Yourself Journal Experience.
It wasn’t dramatic.
It wasn’t loud.
It wasn’t even planned.
It was quiet, almost ordinary, but it changed everything.
🌿 The Moment Everything Shifted
For years, I’ve envisioned creating a healing ecosystem centered on African and Black communities. But fear kept getting in the way.
Fear of the what-ifs.
Fear of the unknowns.
Fear disguised as “shoulds.”
Then one morning, during my journaling practice, I had an aha moment that stopped me mid-sentence: “I am very resilient.”
Not because of what I’ve survived.
Not because of what I’ve achieved.
But because of who I’ve become.
It took me 40 years and two months to embody that truth.
And the realization didn’t come from striving.
It came from choosing softness, gentleness, slowness, and the belief that abundance doesn’t require suffering.
That moment is the heartbeat of this journal.
🧠 Where Research and Lived Experience Meet
While completing my doctoral research, I studied how mental health counselors sustain wellness despite ongoing exposure to trauma.
What I discovered surprised me:
The people who stayed well weren’t the ones who avoided pain; they were the ones who stayed connected to themselves in the midst of it.
Through my ecological framework, I learned that resilience isn’t a trait you “have.” Resilience is a relationship.
A relationship with yourself.
With your environment.
With your community.
Resilience is not self-sacrifice.
It is self-connection.
This journal grew from that revelation, a guide to help you return to yourself, rather than performing strength for others.
✨ Why This Journal Matters
I created this journal for the woman who is tired of holding everything together in silence.
For the woman who has done all the “right things” and still feels far from herself.
For the woman who knows she’s resilient but wants that resilience to feel nourishing, not depleting.
This journal is an invitation to:
slow down
listen inward
release the old scripts
root yourself in truth
It’s part reflection, part ritual, part gentle recalibration.
🪞 A Sample Prompt From the Journal
Take a moment to answer this question:
“What part of me have I abandoned in the name of being strong?”
Let whatever rises be enough.
🌱 A Gentle Call In
In the next edition, I’ll share the full themes within the journal:
- Recognizing Yourself
- Releasing Perfection
- Reclaiming Your Story
- Rooting in Wholeness
Each theme is grounded in my research, my clinical work, and my personal healing journey.
If you’d like to be the first to access the journal when it launches, join the early waitlist here:
I would love to have you with me on Friday, December 19th, for The Art of Coming Home, a virtual gathering where we breathe, reflect, and make space for becoming.
