Hi ,
This week’s Better Leadership Blueprint was inspired by one of my clients… who, by digging deeper, realized that the source of her problem wasn’t AT ALL what she’d thought it was…

Underperforming employees can really knock your confidence
Recently, one of my clients (let’s call her Joan) was really struggling with an employee (who we’ll call Joyce for this story. Do you like how my alias names are basically subplot characters of The Golden Girls? You’re welcome.)
Joan felt like Joyce was seriously underperforming, and it was triggering, frustrating, and annoying her to no end.
She wasn’t:
- Meeting project deadlines
- Showing a proactive attitude AT ALL
- Communicating important updates when Joan needed them
So we started working through the main symptoms Joan was seeing and brainstorming ways to help Joyce show up the way Joan wanted her to…
…and discovered 2 very simple things at the root of all of this.
Joan didn’t have any kind of project management system or tool.
And she didn’t have regular 1:1’s in place with Joyce.
And all along, Joan had been questioning her entire identity as a leader, beating herself up mercilessly with questions like:
“Do I have what it takes to lead?”
