Hi ,
This week’s Better Leadership Blueprint was inspired by one of my favorite coaches, Steve, who talks a lot about information vs. transformation, and how not understanding when you have enough information will keep you stuck.
Read time: 3 minutes
Overwhelmed or stuck?
Although I love research as much as the next dork, (and probably even more, if I’m honest) it can have a real dark side.
And no, I don’t mean the back shelves of a creepy library kind of dark side. I mean when we focus so much on gathering more information that we fail to apply that information and create actual TRANSFORMATION for ourselves.
I can know a whole bunch of vocabulary words in Spanish, but until I actually go speak the language with others, I won’t really be able to USE the language, right?
Or I can want to get better at using Excel, read articles, watch videos, tell all my friends, think about it, visualize it, dream about it, write journal entries about it, but until I sit down and USE it, run my use case through it, and practice some of the things I’ve read about, I’m not really going to improve a lot.
Gathering too much information is a problem. Why?
Because when we get caught up in the information gathering cycle, guess what we’re NOT doing? ANYTHING ELSE (let alone making important changes)…
