#327 – What's the one decision that will always make you happy?
When things don't go as expected, it's easy to think that unhappiness (in the form of disappointment, anger, dejection, or fear) is the only possible outcome.
It's not: you're always at choice and you can always choose joy.
I know, I know––it sounds trite and fakely positive. But here's the reality: you always have the power to disengage the unhappiness mechanism.
Yesterday, another hurdle appeared in my son's path to freedom. When my husband learned about it, he went to anger. He suspected incompetence––or was it malice?
On previous occasions, I accompanied him there, rooting for his anger and amplifying it with my support.
Yesterday, I chose to disengage. I simply said, "yeah, I thought about that," and remained silent. To myself, I thought, "I'm not trading my peace for a moment of self-righteousness."
Miraculously, my husband's anger seemed to dissipate too, and we continued with our evening.
By disengaging from anger, I'd preserved my peace and encouraged my husband to preserve his.
When in your life did you disengage the unhappiness mechanism to retain your peace?
Love,
Carolina
