#536 – What will you achieve by focusing your attention, intention, and resonance?
What you see with your own eyes seems irrefutably true, doesn't it?
Months ago, when my son was still in jail, I wrote about the naiveté of believing the truth is obvious to all who see the facts. Back then, I realized that in order to see, you need to be willing to see.
When, despite the CCTV evidence, the judge and prosecutors chose to paint my teenage son as a violent person who engaged in an "unprovoked vicious attack," I understood that reality is subject to interpretation (insert surprised-face emoji).
Today, I bring a different angle to that. What if you choose to place your attention on things that make your spirit rise instead of those that drag you down?
What if you set your intention on observing that which opens up your heart and remain oblivious to that which shuts it down?
What if you look for resonance in the world instead of being triggered by the dissonance?
If I did that, thinking about my son's case, I'd say: "the judge and prosecutors were trying to protect someone they truly believed to be a victim in this case."
By seeing the events under that light, I could keep my heart open to their compassion. Yes, in my opinion, they were 100% mistaken, but their desire to protect the community is uplifting.
In that, I find resonance: I understand the desire to protect, I understand compassion.
The result of flipping the upsetting event* on its head is that I maintain my inner peace. I stay rooted in love, away from fear.
In love, any action I take will be more effective, because it won't be reactive or defensive.
What will you place your attention, intention, and resonance on, to maintain your inner peace in times of distress?
Love,
Carolina
*The recent killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis is upsetting. Maintaining our collective inner peace is necessary. We can do it by directing our attention and intention to that which resonates: his kindness, his commitment to care, his determination to maintain the peace, to stay rooted in love.
