OFFER THAT GUY

Who's being slept on?

CFC200 Class of 2021 Denzel Mountali, came on to the scene in British Columbia just recently. The 6'4" 220lbs defensive end from École secondaire Jules-Verne has been hiding in the community ranks for the past couple years. That will all change given football gets the green light to go ahead with the season and new opportunities present themselves. You don't even need the eyeball test to confirm this kid's athleticism. While he's a bit of a project right now, he's well worth the investment...and measures high on the 'great kid' meter.

Our take:

  • Checks all the boxes
  • Extremely strong for his size
  • Outstanding athlete who is well put together
  • Projects as a defensive end
  • Just scratching the surface of his potential

TOP PROSPECTS of the week

"QUARANTINE WORKOUTS"

Class 2023 OG Sebastian Sibbald (Mount Douglas, Victoria, B.C)

"I have been encouraging my teammates to not sit around. Do something. Anything is better than sitting around all day. My friends have been putting on receiver training sessions in a small group. I go just to get some cardio in."

Class 2022 DB Brian Mauvais (Notre Dame, Welland, ON)

"My workouts have generally stayed the same with dedicated days for sprints, conditioning, positional and mobility. I’ve been doing more home workouts as well seeing as all the gyms are closed just trying to keep myself in the best shape during quarantine. No excuses, that’s what I go by and even tho many would be resting and taking it easy I’m still doing everything as hard as I did before all this happened."

Class 2021 DB Isaac Porter (Leo Hayes, Fredericton, NB)

"For the majority of the lockdown I was using a backpack filled with whatever I could find and using resistance bands in my basement. I was also running sprints in my yard while pulling a sled filled with sand bags. The gym I go to reopened two weeks ago so I have been going there ever since."

Class of 2021 RB Skyler Griffith (St. Paul's, Winnipeg, MB)

"I have not been able to accurately record my 40-time, but I do know that I can now keep up with some of my team's fastest receivers, one of which ran a 4.7 last summer. It is fair to say a few tenths of a seconds of my 40-time have been shaven off. However, I will not know an accurate time until I have access to laser technology."

SOUTH OF THE BORDER HEADLINES

  • Laurent Duvernay-Tardif-Tardif, right guard for the reigning NFL champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, has been the first NFL player to choose to opt out of the 2020 season, and he does so to help on the front lines during the fight against COVID-19. The former JP Metras Award winner graduated medical school in 2018, after continuing his schooling in the offseasons for 4 years after being drafted. The brilliant mind will make $150,000 as opposed to the $2.75 million he was supposed to make, but he’s putting the wellbeing of others first. Good guy alert.

  • In offer news this week, CFC100 receiver Nathan Demontagnac for Clarkson Football North picker up his first offer from North Dakota. The 6’3”, 180lbs REC recently ran a hand-timed 40 at 4.45 seconds, you can take that with a grain of salt, but he can definitely move. He could be the third player in just a few years from Football North to go to UND. Former CFC100 QB Quincy Vaughn enrolled early in January, and former CFC100 OG Kyle Hergel has been with them since 2018.

  • Former CFC100 REC Chase Claypool and former CFC100 DT Neville Gallimore have officially signed their rookie contracts this week, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys, respectively. Chase Claypool had also already been named a 70 OVR in Madden 21, but more recently, more ratings have been released, with Gallimore also being listed as a 70 OVR. May be doing some player customizing and touching these guys up.

RECRUITING TIP

Most popular questions from recruits this week?

For better or for worse, social media rules the world in 2020. The sooner you come to grips with this reality, the sooner you can start using social media to your advantage in the recruiting game. Social media is marketing! The sooner you realize that, the easier recruiting is going to be for you.

BOTTOM LINE:

Prospects are obviously still very young and want to use social media as sort of a personal platform where you talk about your day to day life or your opinions - whatever it might be.But for high level prospects, it's gonna be a totally different ball game because you're looking to get recruited.

EVENTS by CFC

CFC150 LB Andrew Grant from Alberta

“I have taken part in the CFC Prospect Game Tryout and recently travelled to Kelowna to take in the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge. I really enjoyed the Kelowna Fox 40 as it allowed me to compete against players that I haven't seen before. It was a great day as there are a lot of great players across the country and I felt that I was able to compete with all players and dominate most of them."

OT Keeton Rout from Ontario

"I have attended the CFC and Fox 40 try out and I am now registered for the 2nd round of selections for the prospect game. I hope to gain exposure and knowledge from the CFC coaching staff."

DB Ethan Laing from Saskatchewan

“Next year I am planning on trying out for the CFC prospect game. I hope to gain new skills from very experienced coaches and to meet new people."
