Most website owners know how important website loading speed is, but there are some common mistakes that should be avoided.
1. Don't focus too closely on Core Web Vitals.
This may be controversial to some, but it is true.
We find that many business owners are so worried about Core Web Vitals (CWV) that they neglect other parts of their SEO strategy. They dump so many resources into maximizing CWV when those resources could be spent better elsewhere.
Of course, CWV is important, but there's no need to overoptimize. For many sites, a perfect score simply isn't possible.
2. Check other page loading speeds, not just your homepage.
When many website owners test their website speed using a tool such as GT Metrix, they simply enter their homepage URL to run the test.
While this is a great start and it's important for your home page to be optimized, this is only the beginning.
You'll also need to run scans on your other important pages, as they may load quite differently than your homepage.
Start with your most popular or highly-converting pages. Run speed tests on all of them to look for individual page speed improvements.
3. Work with a developer to explore advanced speed optimization opportunities.
Many optimizations can be made to a WordPress website with minimal technical knowledge. Plugins do a great deal of the heavy lifting.
However, they may be great optimization opportunities that you lack the knowledge to identify and implement yourself.
Consider working directly with a web developer to explore advanced page loading improvements.
